We talked about the word "taken" and I can't stop thinking about it. Things can be taken, but also people. Taken by. Or you can be taken with someone, and it's a good thing, a gentle possession. Smitten. I'm quite taken with her. How "taken" means willingly claimed, unavailable, spoken for, off the market, as though all your dance card slots are filled. Sorry fellas, I'm taken.
The Online Etymology Dictionary says 'take" is an elemental word in our language. It traces back to Scandinavian roots. I'm going to say it so many times it unravels in my mouth. That "k." Take, taken. Take in. I'm going to say it like a Viking. I'm going to say it like a bon vivant. Like I have no idea what it means.
